About Us

CHANGE OF PLAN FOR TONIGHT – TONIGHT’S SPEAKER IS UNWELL, SO WE ARE HOLDING A GARDENERS’ QUESTION TIME EVENING – LOCAL EXPERTS ON THE PANEL!

Village Greenfingers – we grow stuff!

Village Greenfingers is the gardening club for Goring, Streatley and the surrounding area.

We’re an enthusiastic and friendly bunch of gardeners, with gardens of all sorts and sizes, and would love to welcome you to our meetings.

We offer 10 meetings a year covering a wide range of gardening topics.  In 2024/5 our speakers talked to us on topics ranging from bio-security, to making kimchi, a ‘how to’ of houseplants, the wonders of autumn colours in the garden and the story of ‘Malverleys’, a stunning 10 acre garden that is very much on our wish-list to visit in 2026.

We have plants & gardening goodies for sale at every meeting & there are always people on hand to ask for advice if you have a gardening query.

We also hold a monthly competition & often the loveliest entries come from people with the smallest gardens – size is definitely not everything. We award the ‘Challenge Cup’ to the person who’s won the most points in the competitions, and also reward those who enter lots of competitions with a garden voucher at the end of the year.

But of course it’s not just about sitting and listening & looking at our speakers’ pictures (gorgeous as they may be) – we also arrange visits to lovely gardens nearby – this summer we enjoyed a private tour of Worcester College Gardens in Oxford and, through our affiliation with the RHS, you can get a discount if you’re visiting an RHS garden.

We have an exciting line-up of speakers for our 25/26 programme, covering subjects as diverse as the importance of scented plants in the garden, the greening of London after the Blitz, to the world-famous herbaceous borders at Waterperry Gardens. Do come & enjoy a meeting – whether you’ve been gardening for years or feel that you don’t know a trowel from a turnip, you’ll be very welcome.

We meet at Storton Lodge, Icknield Road, aka The Scout Hut, on the first Wednesday of the month (except December, January and August 7:30 – 9:30 pm. Annual membership is £30, the visitor fee is £5 (including refreshments).

Come and grow stuff with us!
